I went to a really informative talk at The Alchemist Art Supply Store on Saturday. It was presented by David Coles, founder of Langridge paints. He makes the most beautiful oil paints & dry pigments, and even though I've been using them for a few years now, I learned a lot about colour mixing and various mediums. Result? I can't wait to try their Oleogel and Impasto medium.
I know the pigment saturation in Langridge paints is extremely high and have seen for myself how much further the paint can spread (hence longer lasting tubes of paint = economy) but I hadn't really thought about mediums other than in terms of toxicity levels. So it was an interesting idea to me, that the medium can be more important than the paint, because the right medium can make your paint go further without diluting the colour. I'm quite sure many artists would already be aware of this, however I'm putting it out there for anyone who doesn't. Painting can be expensive and here's one way to help further the budget.
By the way, it's really great to have a supplier of Langridge in the heart of Sunbury! Saves me going all the way to Collingwood. Yes I know I can order online, but I just love all things art and paint and can't resist browsing and touching! It's like Christmas!!
