Creativity has so many benefits. When you're being creative, you think about things in a different way. This is what I love about getting creative; its really good for the soul.
Creativity boosts your mood
Creativity frees you. I think there's no better feeling than being in the moment and talking with your paintbrush. It's like putting voice to your feelings without speaking.
When you're being creative, your soul flies.
Being creative is like meditating
When you're meditating, you're in the moment. You're in a place of stillness and calm, and that allows you to have crystal clear insights into what matters to you.
When you're being creative, you're in that same calm, insightful space. You channel those insights - your deepest feelings, thoughts, passions. When you create something, you're putting YOU out there, so when people connect with a piece of art, they're connecting with a little piece of someone's soul.
Creativity recharges your batteries
It gives you energy or it can help you to feel completely peaceful and relaxed, depending on what you're creating and how you go about it.
For instance, I find working at speed with loud music invigorating; it charges me with energy and joy.
However, if I choose to work with more serene music, on a delicate creation like botanical art, it takes me to a place of calm energy instead. In both, I am totally focused.
Time to get creative
The next time you've got a case of the blues, go out there and get creative. It's the best medicine!
I visited the NGV MOMA exhibition and stood in the presence of greatness, just a touch away from masters such as Lautrec, Van Gogh, Gauguin, Seurat, Matisse and Pollock. As I moved through the exhibition my eye was constantly drawn back to those 'greats' and the genius of their techniques. So disarmingly simple, yet so planned and complicated!
So what seized my attention & fed my inspiration?
